David Shonman

David is a coastal biologist and educator. He has lived, studied, and worked in the Monterey area since 1968. After completing his graduate studies at California State University's Moss Landing Marine Laboriories, he worked as a mariculture biologist, raising shellfish and other marine molluscs.

During the late '70s, David began focusing on the understanding and protection of coastal ecosystems. He has directed and coordinated numerous projects involving the protection of rare and endangered species, the restoration of coastal dunes, and the long-term management of the Carmel shoreline. Throughout his professional life, David has taught about biology and natural history to a wide range of students, from University level to young children. He has also authored several technical and general articles.
